Accepting a 28-Day Writing Challenge: Here’s How I’m Setting Myself up for Success

Hi,

Today marks the beginning of my next chosen module, Content Creation: Writing & Publishing. For the following month I will be rapidly producing and experimenting with new content, while strengthening my skills as a writer.

In creating this first post I will be discussing where I am, where I want to be, and what it will take for me to get there. Beginning with the hard part.

Challenge Awareness

Whenever walking into something new and difficult, I always make it a point to identify my known pitfalls. I have strengths, I have weaknesses, and there are always additional variables to keep in account as well.

Here are some challenges that I am prone to:

  • Procrastination.
  • Writers block.
  • Perfectionism.
  • Struggle with school, work, & daily life balance.

All completely normal and relatable things that everyone deals with. But knowing that I am committing to a 28-day writing challenge, this will greatly exasperate these pain points. Which can, and will, require a lot of discipline to overcome.

The breakthroughs I have this month will be earned.

Identifying these challenges also shows me my roadmap to success. To make my life easier I will be:

  • Crossing off days on a physical calendar, to keep me motivated and show a visual representation of my work.
  • Creating an outline of daily prompts at the beginning of the week.
  • Adding to my swipe file daily.
  • Recording voice memos on Otter–when I talk about things in the midst of my day I find that I have interesting breakthroughs. Otter also creates a transcript and breaks down my main points for me.

This brings me to goal setting.

Goals

Taking the time to identify clear and obtainable goals lays a strong foundation for success. Here is where I want to be in a month:

Below are three goals related to my strength as a writer,

  • Write better articles in less time, build “writing endurance”
  • Take steps towards finding my authentic writing voice
  • Find direction towards what I like to write about

Additionally,

  • Learn about (web) SEO & optimize site
  • Continue to share my work on social media daily

Conclusion

I can already tell that this will be a month of tremendous growth for me. Within the struggle I will go through, I’m confident that I will also find many pleasant surprises along the way.

The first step towards success is identification.

Thank you for reading,

Olivia
