As a continuation of my public notebook: I started a new daily blogging challenge to begin solidifying the learning that I’m doing while training jiu jitsu.

Notes: Thursday July 11th

5p Class:

Bump Sweep:

If someone is leaning back in your guard, in one explosive movement, open and shoot your arm over their opposite shoulder. Sending them backwards. Putting you into mount.

Bump Sweep, Fail to Spider Grip:

Trying for the bump sweep, but getting pushed back down, fall back into your spider grip instead.

Spider Guard Sweep:

With both feet on the biceps and tension in the arms. Rock to one hip, pushing your top leg to the ceiling. Extending the individual off balance, put the leg closest to the floor down. Hip now completely on the floor, scissor sweep them over. Following up to mount or arm bar.

  • Mobility drills

6p Class:

X-Guard Sweep:

In guard, with a strong center grip on both hands. When your opponent stands up, switching to one opposite grip and putting feet to hips. Put your bottom foot behind their knee, grabbing ankle with free hand. Pull foot hook and ankle grip forward while maintaining control of wrist. Swim up for an arm bar, or go to side control.

Plant Sweep:

Beginning in guard, when your opponent stands up. Maintaining guard, grab nearest foot. Plant your other arm down next to your head. Rolling towards their knee and bridging upwards, take them over into mount.

Chop Sweep:

In guard, with a strong center grip on both hands. When your opponent stands up, putting feet to hips. Letting go of one hand to grab the nearest ankle. Drop your bottom foot down to “chop” the back of their staggered foot. Pushing and pulling to send them backwards.
