As a continuation of my public notebook: I started a new daily blogging challenge to begin solidifying the learning that I’m doing while training jiu jitsu.

Notes: Sunday July 14th

10a class

After our warmup we spent a lot of time at the beginning repping proper form and technique, movement of body. Then we transitioned into two sweeps:

Scissor Sweep from Spider

Set up spider guard: 2x hand grips, feet to hips, extending knees outwards, applying tension in your opponents arms.

Now choose one foot to walk up to their shoulder, press in, when you feel comfortable take your foot up to their bicep. Hip switch appropriately, now with your opposite hip facing the floor. Straighten the leg connected to their bicep, pulling them forward and off balance. Quickly take your other leg that was placed on their hip, and put it fully on the ground, scissor chopping their knee. This shift tips them over, ride the energy up to mount while not letting go of the bicep foot arm.

Lasso Flower Sweep

Set up spider guard: 2x hand grips, feet to hips, extending knees outwards. Applying tension in your opponents arms, walk both feet upwards (one by one if you have to) from shoulders to biceps in order to maintain control.

Transition into lasso guard: wrap one of the two feet out and around the arm of choice. Locking in your foot to their armpit.

You now have one foot completely entangled. For the sweep, take the opposite leg and put it to the same hip as the lasso guard. Rotating your body towards that direction, shoot your open arm next to their knee. Grabbing the fabric to guide. Continue turning and applying pressure in the lasso guard to get them rotated over.

**Pain compliance** You now have a bicep slicer available, but you’re also able to pin their arm down with your shin at a 45 degree angle and attack the other arm. Slide to mount. Arm bar. Etc.
