As a continuation of my public notebook: I started a new daily blogging challenge to begin solidifying the learning that I’m doing while training jiu jitsu.

Notes: Thursday July 25th

Triangle reps (locking rubber guard and readjusting shin)

Shoot up for the triangle and lock your guard as best as you can. Once they’re secure, bridge their arm up and over if needed. Then, maintaining control, grab your ankle with your arm, pulling your shin up their back. Locking in place with your other foot for a tighter hold. Finish triangle.

Triangle from butterfly

Triangle from spider guard

In spider guard, shoot one foot upwards maintaining control of their opposite arm. While you’re making them hold your weight with the first foot, quickly shoot other leg around the arm on to their back as well. Capturing their head and arm. Readjust following readjustment instructions.

Triangle arm-bar combo

When in a triangle, you can flower sweep to knock your opponent over into an arm bar position–or simply bridge upwards to hit the arm bar as well.

Triangle defense, arm locking

If your opponent locks their arms tight behind your triangle, bridge upwards and slide your arm under the hand that’s locked around your leg. Gabel grip and turn your body to open their hands. You can:

  • omoplata
  • arm bar
  • reset triangle
