As a continuation of my public notebook: I started a new daily blogging challenge to begin solidifying the learning that I’m doing while training jiu jitsu.
Notes: Monday July 29th
6p Class
We worked on positional guard, mount, and side control drilling. Switching partners every 4 min (two minute rounds). The goal was to either maintain control or escape. We were given tips along the way.
- Posture
- Wrapping legs around in mount, staying heavy, sprawling outwards
- Grips: where to put them, how to break them
Rolling, heavy
7:30p Class
Side control escapes
Kesa, frame
If their weight is positioned lower: frame on their face, swing your leg up and hook them downwards. Off of you.
Kesa, log roll
If their weight is positioned upwards: wrap your arms, gable grip around their floating rib, flip them over.
Kesa, hurricane kick
Hurricane kick hard and use the momentum to drive the elbow closest to their body to the floor. Frame and turn your head out.
Y-escape
Bridge up into them. They shove you back down. Using their momentum, y-frame on their armpit. Sticking your arms straight out and doing a Turkish get-up to push them off.
Quarter guard flip
If their hip is dropped, locate their knee. Sliding it over and catching their leg in quarter guard. Turning their hip like a lever, shimmy under them and flip them over. Making sure you remove your foot from the trap quickly.
