As a continuation of my public notebook: I started a new daily blogging challenge to begin solidifying the learning that I’m doing while training jiu jitsu.
6p Class:
At our 6p class we continued to work on guard & guard retention. Removing our opponents lapel from their belt, shifting it over their head, and breaking their posture downwards.
Lapel Chokes
Grabbing the lapel and putting it around the arm, backwards and forwards, and over the head opens up many chokes. You have their posture controlled, shifted downwards, and they don’t have an arm to protect themselves. We practiced a couple of different variations.
Lapel Arm Bar
Grabbing the lapel and putting it around the arm, you’re able to isolate one side of their body while redirecting their posture down. Shimmying to the side of the isolated arm, swing your top foot up and around–setting up a reverse arm bar.
7:30p Class:
Trap and Roll
Trap an arm and a leg on the same side, bridge over hard.
Leg Hook
Swing your legs up and hook over their face, pull them downwards.
Half-Guard Mount Escape
Keeping elbows pinched, turn to one hip as much as possible. Push/slide their knee down with your elbows & hands, while shimmying upwards. Collect their leg and catch them in half guard. Turn your hips in the opposite direction and shrimp out, or do a half-guard sweep.
Butterfly Mount Escape
Bridge and fully extend your arms to hoist their hips upwards, with the goal to catch your knees through this opening. Slide their body back down while securing butterfly hooks. Do a butterfly sweep or reset.
