As a continuation of my public notebook: I started blogging to solidify my learning in jiu jitsu.
Monday April 14th
- Review of women’s class (to be taught April 17th)
- Frame to throat: attackers arms going under
- Frame to face both hands- BASE DOWN WHILE PUSHING UPWARDS: attackers arms going under but clinching around hips
- Frame to hips shuffle hip toss: attackers arms bear hug over
- From punch block guard:
- Pummeling
- Triangle—
- pummel
- Kidney kicks
- If you get picked up from a triangle hold the knee never get picked up let go of triangle
- Not punching: Swim out and around. Disconnect and reconnect grip on wrist. Rubber guard. Foot on hip not on ground. Shoulder walk. Clamp, toes pointed upwards and foot extended out. Bridge and redirect arm.
- Punching/giving space take space
- Knee on belly review
- Shrimp: elbow checking knee on stomach, other arm reaches out to check extended leg. Shrimp out and get feet in.
- Reverse Shrimp: (when opponent turns you away from them) take away landing zone by protecting your ribs with your elbow frame. Reverse shrimp hard and get feet in.
- Emergency Roll-Out: elbow checking knee on stomach, other arm reaches out to check extended leg. Bump, and immediately spider/roll over shoulder. Go to turtle if caught, but ideally sit back to punch block gangora or technical stand up.
- Swim-Under: elbow checking knee on stomach, other arm reaches out to check extended leg. Bump, and shoot under opponent scooping under their knee-on-belly ankle. Grab the back of their shirt, pants, or belt to secure hook. Pull hook arm towards you while pushing on their chest with opposite arm to tip them backwards. Sit up to side control, maintaining hold of their leg until they kick it out first.
- Ankle Pick: elbow checking knee on stomach, other arm reaches out to check extended leg. Bump, and shoot under opponent scooping under their knee-on-belly ankle. Grab the back of their shirt, pants, or belt to secure hook. Pull hook arm towards you while pushing on their chest with opposite arm to tip them backwards. Sit up to side control, (OPPONENT DOESN’T TIP ALL THE WAY), slide to grip their ankle and pull it upwards while continuing push.
Tuesday April 15th
Knee on belly defense class 3:
- Defend with elbow and checked arm. Feed knee to center and put opponent in quarter guard. They knee cut to the right: immediately get the underhook, scoot under them for the roll (sweep).
- Defend with elbow and checked arm. Feed knee to center and put opponent in quarter guard. They knee cut to the left: shrimp re-guard.
Standing:
- Opponent goes for a bear hug over your arms and buckles your hip inwards: Shoot both inside arms to their hip and fully extend frames. Head is turned facing away from them while resting on their shoulder. One shuffle in the opposite direction your head is facing. Underhook across the back. Shoot in for hip toss.
- Spartan Shield Clinch: Opponent shoots in to bear hug, Spartan shield defense. “L” arms and shoot in for punch block clinch. Prep step takedown.
- If they defend prep step takedown by stepping out– hip toss
- If they push into you– Gable grip lift takedown
Wednesday April 16th
- Previous knee on belly review (reps)
- Reviewing women’s class again in preparation for tomorrow. (reps)
Thursday April 17th
Taught women’s class
6pm:
- Side Control Backdoor Escape: bridge up and into opponent and shoot arm closest to them through. Pull yourself away using your arm as a lever. Shoot lever arm under your body while you’re on your side, facing opponent. Hip switch to get your knees under you. Sit up to put your hand on their opposite hip, while checking for the elbow strike–head tight.
- Back door to single leg: Complete backdoor escape, this time your opponent doesn’t let you come up easy. Instead–hip switch, put your head tight to their hip and gable grip their leg. Put your elbow on the ground to prevent them from moving. Shuffle to outside and shove them with your shoulder while hugging gable grip inwards. Flattening them out. Take back.
